Governor Anne Waiguru has apologized to the people of Mt Kenya following the impeachment of former Deputy President" Rigathi Gachagua.
Waiguru said the emotional reactions that followed the impeachment reflected deep pain among residents, but warned that such feelings should not lead to division or isolation from other communities in the country.
She emphasized that Kenya’s strength lies in unity, urging leaders and citizens to avoid statements or actions that could fuel regional tension.
She noted that political disagreements are part of democracy, but they should never be allowed to break long-standing bonds between communities.
According to her, leaders have a responsibility to promote peace, understanding, and cohesion, especially during moments of political transition.
She added that differences in opinion must be handled in a way that preserves national unity.
The Governor further stated that Mt Kenya remains a key part of the country’s social and economic fabric and should continue working closely with other regions.
She encouraged residents to focus on development and shared national goals rather than political emotions that may divide communities.
She insisted that her apology was sincere and aimed at promoting healing and reconciliation across the country.
She urged leaders at all levels to prioritize dialogue and restraint, saying that Kenya’s future depends on how well its people manage diversity and political differences.
She concluded by calling for unity and mutual respect, reminding Kenyans that leadership is temporary but national cohesion must remain permanent for the sake of future generations.
