"If You Join Gachagua, We'll Not Follow You" Sifuna Warned Publicly

Section of members of Bunge la Mwananchi have issued a stern warning to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over reported plans to align with a united Opposition being formed under former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The youth group said such a move would face resistance from them, arguing that Gachagua has previously been accused of tribal politics and should not be trusted with national leadership ambitions.

They insisted that Sifuna, who has been vocal in ODM party politics, should instead consider pursuing his own presidential ambitions rather than joining a coalition they believe contradicts the interests of Nairobi youth.

The group warned that their support is not automatic and will depend on political direction taken by leaders they associate with progressive change.

Meanwhile, the emerging political formation dubbed “Linda Mwananchi Team” brings together key opposition-leaning figures including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and other senior ODM members who are reportedly dissatisfied with the party’s growing closeness to President William Ruto’s administration.

The group has hinted at joining the broader opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 political realignments.

Political observers say the unfolding debate highlights deep divisions within ODM as leaders weigh their next moves in a rapidly shifting opposition landscape.

Whether Sifuna will heed the warnings or chart an independent path remains a key question as youth movements increasingly assert influence in national politics.

The group also called for internal dialogue within ODM to avoid further fragmentation, urging party leaders to prioritize unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, neither Sifuna nor Gachagua has officially responded to the claims, leaving speculation to continue across political circles and social media platforms as alignments continue to shift.

Analysts note that youth-led political pressure is becoming a defining factor in shaping Kenya’s opposition strategies and leadership contest narratives going forward.
