Ruto Night Crisis Meeting after Sifuna-Orengo-Babu Tononoka Rally that Stunned Oburu Odinga Talks

The emergency meeting at State House was reportedly triggered by the realization that the official ODM leadership, led by Dr. Oburu Oginga, may not command the grassroots loyalty previously promised during merger negotiations.

While the government had banked on the Broad-Based cooperation to neutralize the opposition, the massive, organic turnout at Tononoka Grounds proved that the struggle wing of the party remains the dominant force at the Coast.

This disconnect suggests that the national administration may have been negotiating with a leadership that lacks the actual support of the voting base.

A major point of alarm during the night session was the widespread adoption of the One Term (Wantam) slogan by the Mombasa youth, echoing sentiments recently seen in the Mount Kenya region.

Intelligence reports presented during the meeting allegedly highlighted that the narrative of economic failure and high taxation is resonating more effectively than the government’s recent development announcements.

The President is said to be particularly concerned that this sentiment has successfully been exported to the Coast, creating a multi-regional anti-incumbency wave that threatens the 2027 re-election blueprint.

The crisis aspect of the meeting centered on whether the official ODM wing still possesses the legal and political instruments of power to deliver its supporters to a UDA-led coalition.

With Edwin Sifuna still holding significant influence and enjoying massive popular support, the official merger process faces a crisis of legitimacy.

State House strategists are reportedly worried that pushing ahead with a formal merger now could result in a total exodus of voters to the Linda Mwananchi side, leaving the government with only the party name but no actual voters.

Ultimately, the Tononoka rally signaled that Linda Mwananchi is no longer just a faction but is transitioning into a fully-fledged political party for the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna and his allies have effectively used the Mombasa platform to declare their independence from the Oginga-led establishment, promising to field their own presidential candidate.

This evolution forces the ruling party to move from a strategy of absorption to one of containment, as they now face a two-front war against a revitalized opposition at the Coast and a rebellious Mountain voting bloc.
