Advocate Ndegwa Njiru Claims Mt Kenya Region Has Abandoned President Ruto

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has claimed that the Mount Kenya Region has already withdrawn its political support for President William Ruto despite overwhelmingly backing him during the 2022 General Election.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the outspoken advocate argued that the shift in political mood in the region is not because the president abandoned the people but because residents themselves have moved away from him.

Njiru maintained that the political tide in the region has significantly changed and warned that efforts by the current administration to regain support may not succeed.

According to the lawyer, the people of the Mt Kenya region—often referred to as Murima—have already made up their minds politically and are expressing dissatisfaction with the current regime.

“Someone tell Ruto that it’s not him who left the Murima people, but it’s the Murima people who left Ruto,” Njiru said in the social media post.

He further argued that holding numerous meetings or distributing financial incentives in the region would not restore the level of support the president enjoyed during the last election.

Njiru also pointed to the growing popularity of the “Skiza Ground” slogan promoted by the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), saying it signals a shift in political loyalty in the region.

According to him, the slogan has been embraced by many residents in the mountain region as a rallying call urging leaders to listen to the concerns of ordinary citizens on the ground.

The advocate also referenced the rising use of the “Wantam” slogan, which has gained traction among sections of the opposition.

The term, widely used in political circles, implies that the current administration may only serve a single term before voters seek a change in leadership during the 2027 General Election.

Njiru claimed that the increasing popularity of the slogan reflects growing anti-incumbency sentiment within the Mt Kenya region.

Meanwhile, political analyst Herman Manyora has also weighed in on the evolving political dynamics in the region.

According to Manyora, a possible political alliance between former president Uhuru Kenyatta and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua could significantly reshape the political landscape in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections.

The analyst noted that if the two leaders were to reconcile and work together politically, the move could influence the direction of the region’s support.

Manyora was reacting to reports of a meeting between the two leaders in Kirinyaga County, which has sparked widespread political debate across the country.

“If Uhuru and Gachagua were to sit together and work together, that ends the whole thing. It means the mountain is gone for good and in a big way,” Manyora said during a political analysis discussion.

He added that such an alliance could potentially unite the region behind a new political direction and strengthen opposition efforts against the current administration.

The Mt Kenya region remains one of the most influential voting blocs in Kenya’s politics, and its political alignment is expected to play a critical role in determining the outcome of the 2027 General Election.
