What Is Happening at Wamunyoro? Massive Turnout at Gachagua’s Home Raises Questions

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is once again attracting political attention at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County, where supporters, local leaders, and political allies have reportedly continued to gather as consultations on the country's political future intensify.

The developments come at a time when the opposition is holding discussions on strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua recently announced that he would spend 45 days at his Wamunyoro home engaging supporters, opinion leaders, professionals, youth representatives, and religious leaders on the way forward for the opposition movement.

Photos and videos circulating online on Thursday showed heightened activity around the residence, with groups of supporters arriving from different parts of the Mt Kenya region.

The gatherings have fueled speculation about the direction of opposition politics and the role Gachagua could play in shaping the next electoral contest.

The former Deputy President has maintained that opposition leaders must unite behind a single presidential candidate if they hope to mount a strong challenge against President William Ruto in 2027.

According to his recent remarks, the consultations taking place at Wamunyoro are aimed at building consensus and identifying the most effective strategy for the opposition coalition.

Today's events also unfold as political temperatures continue to rise across the country. In Nairobi, activists and human rights groups are mobilizing ahead of planned demonstrations to commemorate Gen Z protesters who lost their lives during the 2024 anti-government protests.

The Finance Bill 2026 debate in Parliament has also generated intense public interest, further placing national politics under the spotlight.

With supporters continuing to flock to Wamunyoro, the residence has increasingly become a focal point of opposition consultations. Political observers now believe the outcome of the ongoing meetings could significantly influence alliances and power calculations as the race toward the 2027 elections gradually takes shape.
