Life of Ol Kalou DCP Candidate Changes Overnight After Ruto's CS Calls Him a Chokoraa

A political fundraising campaign launched by Nyandarua Senator John Methu has continued to attract attention after supporters contributed thousands of shillings in ten-shilling coins to support Democratic Change Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Ngotho ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election.

Speaking after receiving visitors from Kanjuiri Ridge Ward, Methu disclosed that the group donated KSh18,920, all in KSh10 coins, towards the purchase of a suit for Ngotho.

The initiative was launched after former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria allegedly referred to the DCP candidate as a “chokoraa,” a remark that sparked heated political debate in the region.

According to Methu, the donations are part of the now popular “10 Bob Movement,” a campaign that encourages ordinary wananchi to contribute small amounts as a show of solidarity with the candidate.

He further revealed that the movement’s current M-Pesa balance has risen to KSh96,396, signaling growing support from grassroots supporters.

The fundraising drive has quickly transformed from a response to political criticism into a symbol of resistance among supporters who argue that leadership should not be judged by appearance or economic status.

Images and videos shared online show residents turning up with coins and small cash contributions, with many saying they want to prove that ordinary citizens can collectively make a difference.

The development comes at a time when political temperatures are rising across the country as parties intensify preparations for upcoming electoral contests.

With debates over leadership, party loyalty, and grassroots mobilization dominating headlines, the Ol Kalou contest is increasingly attracting national attention.

As the by-election campaign enters a critical stage, the “10 Bob Movement” has emerged as one of the most talked-about political fundraising efforts, highlighting the growing influence of citizen-driven campaigns in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
