Kisumu Residents Raise Concerns Over Alleged Intimidation of Linda Mwananchi Mobilisers

Residents in parts of Kisumu have voiced concern over what they describe as increased pressure targeting grassroots organisers linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement.

During a community engagement forum held on Sunday, several residents and local leaders claimed that youth associated with the movement have recently faced arrests, surveillance, and questioning under circumstances they described as unclear and politically motivated.

According to speakers at the meeting, the movement has grown steadily among young people through civic awareness campaigns, community mobilisation, and governance discussions.

However, they now allege that some organisers are experiencing intimidation aimed at weakening the group’s growing influence at the grassroots level.

Some residents further claimed that meetings connected to the movement have allegedly faced disruptions, while organisers have reportedly been warned against conducting public gatherings.

They argued that such actions risk discouraging youth participation in civic and democratic activities.

Community representatives insisted that political engagement and civic mobilisation should not expose young people to fear or harassment.

They called for transparency and equal protection of constitutional rights regardless of political affiliation or activism.

The allegations have since sparked debate within local political and civic circles, with some leaders urging calm as others demand independent investigations into the claims being raised.

So far, security agencies have not publicly responded to the specific accusations made during the meeting.

In previous cases involving similar concerns, authorities have maintained that law enforcement actions are guided by security and legal considerations rather than politics.

Political analysts say the emerging tensions reflect the growing influence of youth-led civic movements in national conversations, especially as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
