On Thursday, a group of young mobilizers accused unnamed political actors of using administrative and political pressure to derail the weekend rally. While no concrete evidence was presented, the claims have amplified existing anxieties about political violence in the region.
The youth specifically cautioned Wanga and Ojienda to stay clear, signaling deep mistrust between the grassroots movement and established county leadership.
The Linda Mwananchi movement, backed by Siaya Governor James Orengo and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, positions itself as a pro-people reformist wing. But rival ODM leaders loyal to Oburu Oginga's Linda Ground faction have dismissed the tour as illegitimate.
Budget Committee Chair Sam Atandi declared on X: "No imposter will be allowed into Kisumu." Governor Wanga has also showcased youth defectors returning to the ODM mainstream, aiming to weaken the rival faction's influence.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja has assured that the rally will be fully secured, urging organizers and attendees to comply with the law.
"Those who want to attend are free to attend. The meeting will be fully secured," Kanja stated.
Police have already arrested suspects linked to recent political violence in Kisumu, including the attack on Senator Godfrey Osotsi. Others who fled the country are being pursued with international cooperation.
Political observers warn that Kisumu's volatile environment could see rival factions clash during the tour. The involvement of high-profile leaders makes this rally a major test of ODM's internal cohesion and Kenya's democratic space.
With rallies scheduled in Kisumu and Vihiga, organizers insist the event will remain peaceful. But with youth warnings, factional hostility, and unresolved recent violence, the weekend will reveal whether Linda Mwananchi is a genuine civic movement or the spark for a wider political showdown.
