A family has refused to take part in their father’s burial more than twenty years after he left them, leaving wounds that never healed.
The man, who had been gone for 26 years, recently appeared in a video shared online by Issa Maulid. In it, he asked his children for forgiveness and hoped to make peace.
In the video, he seemed sorry, admitted his mistakes, and wanted to reconcile before he died.
The clip spread quickly online and drew mixed reactions.
Some people urged understanding, while others said the pain from his abandonment couldn’t be fixed by words said too late.
Still, the family stood firm. A neighbour said that after the man died, the children made it clear they wouldn’t be involved in the burial.
They felt their father had made his choice long ago when he left them to deal with life alone. Without his support, they went through many struggles, and those years couldn’t be undone.
The neighbour added that the apology didn’t change how the children felt. They believe forgiveness can’t just be asked for at the end, especially after years of silence. They think responsibility should have shown up when it really counted.
This has started a bigger discussion about family duty and forgiveness. Some think everyone deserves another chance, but others feel accountability needs time and real effort, not just last-minute regrets.
For this family, the choice wasn’t made out of anger. It came from thinking about a past they say can’t be changed.
