Gachagua Defends Himself While Responding to Mudavadi in Fresh Rift Over Western Kenya Politics

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pushed back strongly against recent remarks attributed to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, accusing him of spreading narratives that question his ability to serve Kenyans following his impeachment and exit from office.

Speaking on June 13, 2026, Gachagua dismissed claims that he has been misleading residents of Western Kenya about development progress and his political standing, insisting that public service is not confined to those holding office.

“I have heard Musalia Mudavadi say that I have come to lie to the people of Western, telling them that nothing has been done for them and that I have been impeached from office, so I cannot help them. But you do not need to be in office to help people,” Gachagua said.

His remarks appeared to directly respond to growing political commentary suggesting that his impeachment limits his influence and credibility in shaping development discussions or regional political direction.

Gachagua maintained that leadership extends beyond government positions, arguing that community engagement, advocacy, and mobilization remain valid tools of service regardless of official status.

Mudavadi’s earlier remarks had warned Kenyans to be cautious of leaders who, in his view, lack a clear or stable political future yet continue to project influence over national direction.
