Moses Kuria Analyses Ol Kalou Nominations, Predicts Major Impact Ahead of 2027 Polls

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has offered a fresh analysis of the recently concluded Ol Kalou nominations, arguing that the outcome could provide an early glimpse into the political direction Kenya may take ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a political engagement, Kuria observed that constituency-level nominations are no longer simple local contests but have evolved into powerful indicators of party popularity, grassroots mobilisation, and voter confidence.

According to Kuria, the Ol Kalou exercise demonstrated that political parties must pay close attention to how they manage internal competition because nomination disputes can easily weaken party unity and damage public trust.

“Nominations are the first real test of party strength on the ground,” Kuria said while reflecting on the growing political attention surrounding the Nyandarua contest.

He explained that the level of participation witnessed during such exercises reveals how politically active and engaged ordinary wananchi have become as the country slowly shifts focus toward the 2027 elections.

At the same time, Kuria warned that unresolved conflicts after nominations could alienate supporters and create divisions capable of hurting parties during the general election. His remarks appeared to reference the tensions that emerged after some candidates rejected the outcome of the Ol Kalou nominations and hinted at independent bids.

Political observers believe the comments carry broader significance because parties across the country are already preparing early strategies aimed at strengthening their regional influence ahead of 2027.

Kuria further emphasized the need for reconciliation among competing candidates after party primaries, saying political maturity will be necessary if parties hope to remain united during the next election cycle.

Analysts have also noted that local nomination contests often mirror larger national political trends. The reactions generated after the Ol Kalou exercise have already sparked debate about voter loyalty, internal democracy, and the growing influence of alternative political movements in the Mt Kenya region.

As political formations intensify grassroots mobilisation activities, the Ol Kalou by-election is increasingly being viewed as more than just a local contest. Many leaders now see it as an early political battleground that could influence future alliances, campaign strategies, and regional political alignments.

Kuria’s remarks are expected to keep national attention focused on Nyandarua politics as leaders continue assessing the implications of the nominations and the possible impact on the country’s evolving political landscape ahead of 2027.
