Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has angrily reacted after a publication by The Standard criticized the government of President William Ruto and highlighted what it described as a worsening economic situation.
The newspaper’s front page, shown in the attached image, carried the bold headline “Numbers don’t lie.” It reported that economic growth has slowed down and that key sectors such as agriculture, transport, and finance are losing momentum.
The report also said job creation is still below expectations and that rising fuel prices are increasing the cost of living for many Kenyans.
According to the publication, these figures challenge the government’s positive statements about the economy and suggest that many households are struggling.
Reacting to the report, Sudi strongly defended the government and dismissed the claims made by the newspaper. In a sharp statement, the MP appeared to target Gideon Moi, who is linked to the media house.
“Gideon’s reasoning is as shallow as the pages of his own newspaper,” Sudi said.
He went further and used strong language to express his anger, saying, “Aache kutubeba ufala!!” — a Swahili phrase loosely meaning “He should stop taking us for fools.”
Sudi’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans online. Some people supported him, saying the government is working hard to fix economic challenges inherited from previous administrations.
Others, however, criticized his tone, arguing that leaders should respond with facts instead of insults.
Debates about the state of the economy are becoming more intense, especially with the cost of living remaining high and job opportunities limited.
