Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi team to hold rally in Nakuru

The Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi movement will hold a political rally in Nakuru town on Sunday, April 19, 2026 as the group continues to expand its political activities across the country.

The announcement was made by Joshua Ayika, an aide to James Orengo, the governor of Siaya County and a key figure in the Linda Mwananchi camp.

The rally comes as the movement — largely composed of rebels from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) — continues to gain traction and attract large crowds at its political events.
Growing momentum

Linda Mwananchi has recently held rallies in several parts of the country as it seeks to consolidate its support base ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Its maiden rally took place in Busia, followed by meetings in Kitengela and Kakamega.

After a brief break, the team resumed its activities with another rally in Narok town. A week later, the leaders held a large gathering at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa on March 29, 2026, where they also attracted significant crowds.

The Linda Mwananchi faction emerged following divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement over the party’s political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

The dispute split the party into two camps:

One faction aligned with Oburu Odinga and operating under ODM Linda Ground

Another faction associated with Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi movement

The tensions escalated during a Special Delegates Conference (SDC) held by the Oburu Odinga faction at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi.

In response, Sifuna’s camp organized a parallel People’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) at Ufungamano House.

Following the dispute, the Linda Ground faction moved to purge members aligned with the Sifuna camp from key party positions.

Among the first casualties was Godfrey Osotsi, the senator for Vihiga County, who was removed from the influential position of ODM deputy party leader.

Meanwhile, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) declined to hear a case challenging the removal of Sifuna as ODM Secretary-General.

The tribunal ruled that the matter should first be handled through the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

Suba South MP Carol Omondi has predicted that the ongoing wrangles could lead to a major split within ODM.

According to her, the dispute may produce two distinct factions — one that will remain within the party’s official structures and another that may leave with its supporters.
Orengo’s confidence

Governor James Orengo expressed confidence in the Linda Mwananchi movement, describing it as unstoppable.

“This thing is huge; it’s a tsunami and unstoppable. No force on earth is going to stand in our way,” Orengo said.

He also criticised the leadership of Oburu Odinga, arguing that the veteran politician is being misled by advisers and lacks the experience needed to steer the party.

Orengo further claimed that Oburu had not been actively involved in past pro-democracy struggles alongside his late father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and his brother, Raila Odinga.
