Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has announced that he will not challenge the decision by delegates of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to remove him from the position of deputy party leader, even though he believes the process that led to his ouster was irregular.
Osotsi was removed from the role during a Special Delegates Conference convened on Friday, March 27, where party members resolved to reorganise the party’s leadership structure. The convention was held under the leadership of Oburu Oginga, who currently heads the party.
Despite criticising the legitimacy of the meeting, the senator indicated that he would not pursue legal action to challenge the outcome.
“I am aware of heightened political manoeuvring, particularly among some governors from the western region eyeing the position of Deputy Party Leader,” Osotsi said in a statement.
“Although I have strong legal grounds to challenge these decisions in court, I have made a conscious decision not to pursue litigation, choosing instead to dedicate my time and energy to advancing the true ideals of ODM party,” he added.
Osotsi, who is associated with the Linda Mwananchi faction within ODM, suggested that his removal may actually allow him to concentrate more fully on the political agenda of the group.
According to him, stepping away from the deputy party leader role would provide an opportunity to engage more actively in championing reforms and representing the interests of party supporters.
“My removal, therefore, only serves to grant me greater opportunity to engage more vigorously in championing the interests of the party and the people of Kenya,” he said.
The senator also maintained that political pressure would not intimidate him or influence his political stance.
“Let it be clear that I am not a politician who can be intimidated or governed by fear and I remain steadfast in my commitment to democratic principles and national transformation,” he said.
Warning to critics
Osotsi also sent a warning to those he believes orchestrated his removal, saying he remains determined to challenge what he described as attempts to suppress dissent within the party.
He emphasised that he would continue advocating for democratic values and political accountability, adding that his commitment to national transformation remains unchanged.
“I am prepared to pay any price in pursuit of a better country for all,” he said.
At the same time, the senator called on his supporters and constituents to remain calm despite the political tensions surrounding the party.
“We remain resolute in our mission to defend democracy and to work tirelessly towards meaningful change for the people of Kenya,” Osotsi added.
Osotsi’s remarks come amid rising tensions within ODM, with internal divisions becoming increasingly visible in recent weeks.
The developments also follow signals from Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who recently hinted at the possibility of leaving the party after disagreements surrounding the Special Delegates Conference.
Sifuna criticised the party’s leadership and accused some members of aligning themselves with President William Ruto, a move he said had weakened the party’s ideological foundation.
