“No Term” Chants Erupt as Gachagua Criticises Alice Ng’ang’a During Kirinyaga Tour

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stirred political debate after residents chanted “No Term, No Term” during his tour of Kirinyaga County while discussing the political future of Alice Ng'ang'a.

The chants erupted during a public address at Marinduko Shopping Centre in Mwea Constituency, where Gachagua asked residents whether the Kiambu Woman Representative deserved to be elected governor in the upcoming elections.

Speaking to the crowd, the former deputy president questioned Ng’ang’a’s leadership style, accusing her of repeatedly attacking him in public forums.

“Yule mama anaitwa Alice Ng’ang’a mwenye kazi yake ni kutukana anafaa kuchaguliwa kweli?” Gachagua asked the crowd. “Nimesikia anataka kuwa governor wa Kiambu County. Huyo achaguliwe?”

His remarks prompted the crowd to respond loudly with chants of “No Term,” signaling opposition to the idea of Ng’ang’a becoming Kiambu governor.

The incident highlights the growing political tensions within the Mount Kenya region, where rival camps have emerged ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Ng’ang’a, a vocal supporter of President William Ruto, has previously criticised Gachagua, particularly during events attended by the president. Her remarks have drawn sharp responses from the former deputy president and his allies.

During the Kirinyaga rally, Gachagua accused the president of allowing regional leaders to attack him instead of addressing him directly.

“Mbona Ruto atumie watu wetu kunitukana? Si yeye mwenye anitukane akitaka,” he told the crowd, suggesting that the political attacks were being orchestrated by the president’s allies.

The exchange is seen as part of the early political positioning ahead of the next elections, with several leaders from the Mount Kenya region already signalling interest in key seats.

Ng’ang’a has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat, a move that could reshape the county’s political landscape if she formally declares her bid.

At the same time, Gachagua has been holding a series of public engagements across the region, where he has continued to criticise the government while rallying support among local leaders and residents.
