BREAKING NEWS: Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho Dies While Undergoing Treatment in India

Nyandarua County is in mourning following the death of Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho, who passed away on Sunday morning while receiving specialised treatment in India.

The legislator, who had been battling cancer for some time, died on March 29 after months of seeking medical care both locally and abroad.

His passing marks the end of a political career that spanned over a decade and saw him emerge as one of the most influential leaders from the region.

Family members and close political allies confirmed that the MP had travelled to India in pursuit of advanced treatment after his condition worsened in recent months. Despite efforts by doctors to stabilise him, he succumbed to the illness while undergoing treatment.

Kiaraho was serving his third consecutive term as the Ol Kalou MP at the time of his death. He first entered Parliament after winning the seat during the 2013 General Election and went on to retain it in the 2017 and 2022 elections, cementing his political influence in Nyandarua County.

Throughout his time in office, the late MP built a reputation as a development-focused leader who championed projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, and access to healthcare within the constituency.

Residents of Ol Kalou often credited him for initiating various community programmes aimed at uplifting youth and supporting local farmers.

He was elected on the Jubilee Party ticket during the 2017 and 2022 elections. However, in recent months, he had increasingly aligned himself politically with President William Ruto’s camp, signalling shifting alliances within the country’s political landscape.

Leaders from across the political divide have begun sending messages of condolence to the family, the people of Ol Kalou, and the entire Nyandarua County community. Several lawmakers described Kiaraho as a committed public servant whose dedication to his constituents defined his political journey.

Residents of Ol Kalou also expressed shock and grief following news of his death, noting that the MP had remained hopeful about returning home after treatment.

“He was a leader who listened to the people and worked closely with the community. This is a huge loss for our constituency,” said a local resident reacting to the news.

The death of the MP now creates a vacancy in the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat, which will eventually require a by-election in accordance with Kenya’s electoral laws once the National Assembly formally declares the seat vacant.

Kiaraho’s legacy in Nyandarua politics is expected to be remembered through the development initiatives he championed and the leadership role he played in representing the interests of his constituents in Parliament.

More details regarding burial arrangements and official tributes are expected to be announced by the family and government officials in the coming days.
