Gaucho Reveals Raila's Final Promise Days After Controversial Mama Lucy Hospital Board Appointment

In a deeply emotional interview on NTV television on Thursday, 23, April, 2026 Calvince Okoth, alias Gaucho, shared a heartfelt and personal revelation about a promise that the late former Prime Minister Hon Raila Odinga made to him before he breathed last.

Gaucho, who has been an ardent supporter of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, spoke candidly about the profound bond he had with Raila Odinga, whom he claimed had promised him (Gaucho) that Nairobi county boss Hon Governor Johnson Sakaja would help him find employment.

"Raila Odinga had promised me like one and a half years ago, that Governor Johnson Sakaja would help me find a job." Gaucho indicated during the show.

Raila Odinga’s promise to Gaucho is a testament to the type of leader he was, a man who even amid the pressures of national politics, took the time to personally look after the well-being of those who stood by him.

Aside from that, the significance of Gaucho's revelation further proved that his relationship with the late Raila Odinga was not just built on transactional politics, but rather on a genuine sense of care and appreciation, after he also acknowledged the former Prime Minister's role in helping him reform from being a goon in the Ghetto and finally secure national spotlight.

The conversation surrounding Gaucho’s recent appointment to the Mama Lucy Hospital Board had already taken a completely different dimension, with many Kenyans across the country initially saying that the controversial elevation of Gaucho was a political appointment tied to the current ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.

However, Gaucho’s pronouncement opens the door to a different interpretation, suggesting that the position may be the fulfillment of Raila Odinga’s promise, rather than simply a political reward..
